This tire is on a coworker’s car (black Lexus sedan, presumably whichever one leases the cheapest). I don’t actually know who it belongs to, so I should leave a note ... Right?
Update: Done

A note doesn’t hurt, it at least clears your conscience and puts the onus on them to actually get an obviously damaged tire fixed up.
I've seen curb damage to a rim but that must have been a hell of a hit to tear up the tire like that.

Yes. I would, and do.

yes, note should be in the form of a cookie monster post it note biting chunks out of the wheel and tyre

You would think so. My manager has a 2005 Grand Cherokee with slits in the sidewall of one of his tires and when I mentioned it to him he was all, “haha Psh it will be fine!”

Put a piece of duct tape on there. That way, you’re drawing their attention AND fixing the probem!

wont change anything, cause typical toyota/lexus driver. They will just drive it till it busts, then repeat.

I think a note is probably cool. I've never had a positive response when I tell someone in person that their brake lights are burned out. (Most are borderline violent...hey, I'm trying to keep you from getting hit!)

If they were oblivious enough to smash a curb hard enough to rip off chunks or rubber, they likely won’t give a shit about your suggestions. Leave it alone would be my choice, unless it was one of my friends I wouldn’t care.

Yes, most definitely say something. If they don’t want to do something about it then that’s their decision. But you might just save them a whole bunch of trouble.

Yep, small note would suffice.
As a ‘car person’ I’ve helped people in my parking lot that are not ‘car people’. Usually it’s winter tires on backwards, or lights burnt out.

Yeah, I’ve had that too. People are weird.

That would be awesome!

All four wheels have been curbed a lot. Whether they listen or not, at least I won’t have to feel guilty when they have a massive blowout.

People are crazy!
![]() 10/20/2015 at 13:11 |

That’s what I’m thinking. Then I’m absolved of any self-guilt!
![]() 10/20/2015 at 13:12 |
|
Likely. Especially since all four wheels have serious curb rash. But if I leave a lot I won’t have to feel guilty.
![]() 10/20/2015 at 13:12 |

HA! There, I fixed it!
![]() 10/20/2015 at 13:13 |

But why any sense of guilt at all? The equivalent would be you telling people who are smoking cigarettes to stop smoking or they’ll end up sick.

thats all up to you, but personally I have lost faith in humanity, except for my family, and you guys and girls on oppo.
I gave up trying on others a few years ago. If i see someone in need, I will help. (stranded on the side of the road....) but people with 4 tires with curb rash are not worth my time....
![]() 10/20/2015 at 13:21 |

And then they'll bitch to the NTSB about bad tires that failed too soon.
![]() 10/20/2015 at 13:32 |

Fair point, except everybody knows about smoking, this person may well not know about the giant chunk of missing tire.
![]() 10/20/2015 at 13:33 |

Fair enough!
![]() 10/20/2015 at 13:34 |

Yeah, it must have been quite an impact. All four wheels are seriously curb rashed, so they’re obviously used to hitting things.

A note would be good but to be honest that damage isn’t too bad. I bought my car with a chunk worse than that out of the tyre and it had just passed inspection. I did switch it for the spare for peace of mind though.

I know i sound harsh, but I refuse to help people who don’t even try.

I once tried to tell someone that 2 of their tires had huge bubbles on them and they could burst when driving on the highway, his response “You paying for them?”.
People oblivious to cars are like children oblivious to the world. You can tell them all you want but until they actually fall and scrape their knee after telling them to stop horsing around they won’t learn.
![]() 10/20/2015 at 13:57 |

Eh. I left the note. From here, I don’t really care what happens. Took one minute.

That’s fucked up - I once drove around for a bit without noticing at ALL that my brake lights were out. I apologized to the man who was driving behind me, who kindly pointed it out when we were at a red light. If they get angry it’s probably a good indication they should rethink driving and car ownership altogether.
![]() 10/20/2015 at 14:21 |
|
Exactly - you’re no worse off for leaving it, and if you continue to see the Lexus with the ruined tire, you at least know the owner is a monumental moron. Funny how people are so willing to cheap out on the one thing (or four if you really want to be a pedantic arse) that keeps your car attached to the road.
![]() 10/20/2015 at 20:10 |

If the driver in front of me has a brake light out, I will inform them - if I can. Most say thank you.

I did something like this once. I was skateboarding downtown, and I cut some one off, they wanted to turn in front of me, and instead they just stopped. I was confused until I got past the car, and saw they did have their blinker on, but the front one was out.
I saw the car later that day and left a note that said “your front left blinker might be out.”
